Patient Dashboard Star Flags

Overview

The Star Flag feature on the Patient Dashboard allows practices to visually categorize and prioritize patients. Star flags can be used to indicate patient criticality, identify priority patients, or organize patients into categories based on the practice's workflow.

Each patient has a star icon next to their name that can be assigned one of five available colors:

  • 🔵 Blue

  • 🟢 Green

  • 🟡 Yellow

  • 🟠 Amber

  • 🔴 Red

The practice can define what each colour represents according to its own needs and workflows.

How to Use Star Flags

  1. Navigate to the Dashboard.

  2. Select the appropriate program, such as RPM, CCM, PCM, or another available program.

  3. Locate the patient you want to categorize.

  4. Click the star icon next to the patient's name.

  5. The star will change from grey to the first available colour.

  6. Continue clicking the star to cycle through the available colours.

The colours are applied in sequence with each click.

Star Flag Sequence

Grey → Blue → Green → Yellow → Amber → Red

Once the red flag is displayed, clicking the star again will continue the sequence according to the system's configured behavior.

What Can the Colors Be Used For?

The star colors are customizable categories rather than predefined clinical classifications. Practices can establish their own meaning for each colour based on their workflow.

For example, a practice could use the colours to represent:

Flag

Example Use

🔵 Blue

Patients requiring routine attention

🟢 Green

Patients currently stable

🟡 Yellow

Patients requiring monitoring or follow-up

🟠 Amber

Higher-priority patients requiring attention

🔴 Red

Critical or highest-priority patients

These are examples only. Practices can assign different meanings to the colours based on their operational requirements.

Why Use Star Flags?

Star flags can help care teams:

  • Quickly identify priority patients

  • Visually distinguish patients requiring different levels of attention

  • Organize patients into practice-defined categories

  • Highlight patients who may need follow-up or additional monitoring

  • Create a consistent visual categorization system across the Dashboard

Example

A practice may decide to use:

🔵 Blue → Routine
🟢 Green → Stable
🟡 Yellow → Monitor
🟠 Amber → Priority
🔴 Red → Critical

The practice can then use the stars as a quick visual reference when reviewing the patient list.

Note: Star flags are intended as a practice-defined organizational tool. The colour assigned to a patient does not automatically indicate a clinical condition or severity unless the practice has established that meaning for its workflow.
